Leaning over, gasping, Ichigo glared back at the closing gate. One would think that being invited to Soul Society would mean that one would not have to run for their lives through the Dengai...but, apparently no one thought to send a Hell Butterfly along, too.
Or, Byakuya probably did that on purpose, just for the pleasure of seeing me jump through the gate like an idiot. Ichigo thought darkly.
Well, it wasn't like this was a social call, though. The Sixth Squad Captain had been ordered to teach one Kurosaki Ichigo, substitute shinigami, the basics of kidou.
Honestly, Ichigo wasn't sure how he had been talked into this? But, then again, two Kuchikis working together were a sneaky, unholy alliance.
It wasn't like he needed kidou. Ichigo was of the firm opinion that he had been doing just fine without it! I mean, he'd beaten Byakuya without it, hadn't he? Ichigo had gone gotten rid of more hollows than he could remember, konsoed souls, and all around done his job as a shinigami, without knowing a lick of kidou from the very beginning.
Finally, starting to catch his breath a little, Ichigo stood up straighter, and grimaced at the other problem with these lessons; the prospect of having Byakuya, of all people, as a teacher.
Granted, Byakuya had earned Ichigo's forgiveness for nearly letting Rukia be executed when the older Kuchiki blocked Ichimaru's blade from piercing Rukia's heart, and Ichigo certainly approved of Byakuya's renewed protectiveness of Rukia, but this business of treating Ichigo like the redhead carried some sort of infectious disease, and would sully Rukia with it at any moment really needed to stop! Plus? Byakuya just plain pissed Ichigo off with that high, and mighty noble's attitude.
But, all that aside, he was still Rukia's older brother; for her, Ichigo would try to be civil with the Captain.Well...as 'civil' as Ichigo ever got.
Oy.
This lesson couldn't end fast enough for Ichigo.
